N. China port handles over 38 mln tons of goods in first two months

Tianjin Port, the largest one in North China, handled 38.1 million tons of goods and 755,000 containers in the first two months of this year, with the later rising by 16.82 percent year on year.

An official with the Tianjin Port said that in February, Tianjin port handled more than 18 million tons of goods and 328,000 containers, showing increases of 8.59 percent and 18.75 percent, respectively, over the same month of last year.

More than 70 percent of the goods handled by Tianjin Port have came from regions other than Tianjin.

Tianjin Port does businesses with more than 300 ports in 160 countries and regions. It expects to handle 250 million tons of goods and 6 million containers in 2006.
