China will continue to support the United Nations' work to resolve issues in the Middle East, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said in Beijing Thursday.
Li made the remarks after his meeting with Terje Roed-Larsen, the special envoy of the UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, who was here to discuss security issues relating to Lebannon.
Li said issues in the Middle East have a host of complicated factors such as history, religion, economics and energy security. The international community should take a comprehensive, balanced approach to finding short and long term solutions.
Larsen said the situation in the Middle East is very fragile and is situated at a critical juncture, and that the United Nations is willing to enhance cooperation with China and work together to promote a just and lasting peace in the Middle East.
