Mainland official pledges to safeguard sovereignty, territorial integritySafeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity is China's core concern, said Liu Yandong, vice chairperson of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), in Beijing Thursday. Liu made this remark at a meeting of the executive meeting of the board of the China Council for the Promotion of Peace Reunification (CCPPR). She is the executive vice-president of the council. The official spoke highly of President Hu Jintao's four-point remark last year, saying it has inherited and developed the thought of Mao Zedong, Deng Xiaoping and Jiang Zemin on resolving the Taiwan Issue. Hu's remark is the guiding document for carrying out work on the issue of Taiwan, she noted. The official showed her strong anger and serious concerns on the Taiwan Leader's acceleration of his pro-independence steps, which led to the recent cessation of function of the "unification council" and "guidelines on unificaiton" of the Taiwan Province. The meeting was attended by vice chairpersons of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) He Luli, Cheng Siwei, Xu Jialu and Han Qide, and vice chairpersons of the CPPCC National Committee Luo Haocai, Zhang Kehui and Zhou Tienong. All of them are vice presidents of the CCPPR. Source: Xinhua |
