Foreign trade in South China's bustling Guangdong Province reached 63.63 billion U.S. dollars during the first two months of this year, up 28.4 percent year-on-year, reports local customs.

Statistics show exports soared 29.2 percent to 34.62 billion U.S. dollars, while imports rose 27.5 percent to 29.01 billion U.S. dollars.

General trade took up 25.1 percent of the total volume, reaching 15. 95 billion U.S. dollars. Processing trade amounted to 42.69 billion U.S. dollars, representing 67.1 percent of the total.

Foreign-funded businesses contributed 65.3 percent of the foreign trade, with the volume standing at 41.56 billion U.S. dollars, up 31.7 percent over the same period of last year.

Hong Kong, the United States, the European Union, Japan and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations are Guangdong's five biggest trade partners.

The trade volume with Hong Kong stands at 12.41 billion U.S. dollars, up 27.7 over the previous year, while its trade with African countries soared 55.5 percent to 600 million U.S. dollars.

The province ranks first in the country in terms of foreign trade, with its volume accounting for 28.1 percent of China's total during the period.
