Nepal to form media council for press management
font size

The Nepali government has decided to constitute a Media Council within three months for the rights and interests of journalists, state-run Radio Nepal reported Sunday.

Minister of State for Information and Communication Shrish Shumsher Rana said journalists should use their pen by placing the nation, nationality and the institution of crown at the highest pedestal.

Rana, also the government spokesperson, said the government has to bring in a "professional law" to manage the press.

Speaking at a prize distribution program organized here Saturday by the Journalist Welfare Fund, Rana said, "A new law to check the media will be drafted within three months."

All problems in this sector will be solved once the law comes into force, he said.
