Two notorious armed robbers were shot dead in an aborted robbery in the Zimbabwean capital Harare on Saturday when they exchanged fire with police in a dramatic shootout, according to the Sunday Mail.
Police have through the shooting sent clear signals that they are getting on top of the situation following a series of robberies in Harare.
The two, Hamandishe Shumba and Irvine Shonhiwa Mabika, who were part of a six-man gang, bravely walked through the gate of a house in Park Meadowlands around 7 a.m. where they intended to rob a businessman.
The other two suspects of the gang were arrested.
This was the second time the same gang had targeted the house, having stolen property worth millions of dollars at the same premises in January this year.
A wave of robberies has hit Harare over the past weeks, many committed by what is suspected to be a single gang of hardened criminals.
