Nepal, China to conduct third border inspection mapping
font size

Nepal and China will jointly launch a border inspection mapping operation for the third time, a government official said.

Talking to reporters here on Monday, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jhabindra Rasa Aryal, who looks after China in the Ministry informed that the border inspection mapping operation will start from the second week of April.

He said that the department of survey will lead the Nepalese delegation.

The two countries will apply Global Positioning System technology to survey the border marks, according to Aryal.

"The final mapping result will be valid only after the chiefs of both parties sign to confirm it," he added.

The official said the final mapping outcome is expected to unveil by the end of 2007.

China and Nepal share a 1,400-kilometer borderline, along which there are 79 landmarks.

Both countries carried out border inspection mapping in 1978 and 1988 respectively after two nations signed the boundary agreement in 1961.
