More than a thousand marchers in Stockholm joined protests around the world on the third anniversary of the start of the Iraq war, Radio Sweden reported on Monday.
Anti-war protestors gathered in downtown Stockholm for a rally, followed by a march through the city to the American embassy. One protestor was dressed as the hooded figure shown in an photograph from the Abu Ghraib prison.
In Denmark, demonstrations on Sunday that attracted over 4,000 people in the country's five largest cities protesting against the war in Iraq proceeded without incident, according to police reports.
The demonstrations were held as people in 200 cities worldwide took to the streets to mark the third anniversary of the invasion of Iraq.
In Copenhagen, an estimated 3,000 people held a rally in front of the U.S. embassy and later marched past the British embassy, and on to the house of parliament. One man was arrested for yelling insults at police dispatched to follow the marchers.
Organizers said they were satisfied with the support for protests in Copenhagen, Arhus, Odense, Aalborg and Svendborg, despite the cold weather.
"It was good to see that so many people showed up even though we did use many resources to mobilize people," said Gerd Berlev of Stop the War.
