Guangdong Province, an economic powerhouse in South China, exported 160 million U.S. dollars worth of commodities to Russia in the first month of this year, an increase of 63.6 percent over January last year.
Exported machinery and electronic products made up the lion's share of the province's exported commodities, which totaled 110 million U.S. dollars, up 69.3 percent.
The province also imported 92 million U.S. dollars worth of commodities in January, up 15.7 percent year on year.
Imports of processed oil and steel products from Russia in January were 44.73 million U.S. dollars and 31.44 million U.S. dollars, up 31.6 percent and 93.3 percent, respectively.
In 2005, Guangdong exported goods worth 1.59 billion U.S. dollars to Russia, securing a favorable balance of 360 million U.S. dollars for the first time.
