font size

The Beijing Area Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) has sent more than 1,000 officers and soldiers, two helicopters and more than 3,000 militia to combat a forest fire in north China's Shanxi Province.

As of 8:10 p.m. Tuesday, the troops and local people have extinguished the fire. There were no reports of casualties.

The fire occurred on Monday afternoon in Hunyuan County, which is located on the northern side of Mount Qianfeng, the highest peak of the Hengshan Mountain range.

The helicopters were used to douse the fire that burned at mountain cliffs that was not reachable by fire fighters.
