Chinese, Spanish FMs hold talks on bilateral ties
font size

Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing held talks with his Spanish counterpart Miguel Angel Moratinos on Wednesday, agreeing to widen bilateral cooperation.

Li spoke highly of the current China-Spain relations, appreciating Spain's Asia-Pacific Action Plan that gives much attention to China.

Noting China values its ties with Spain, Li said China would like to step up China-Spain high level exchanges, enhance political dialogue and consultation and expand cooperation in trade, culture and other fields.

Moratinos said Spain will adhere to the one-China policy and promote bilateral cooperation in trade, culture, science and technology, justice and tourism.

They also exchanged views on international issues of common concern, including the Iranian nuclear issue and the reform of the United Nations.

When meeting the press after their talks, both Li and Moratinos said the two countries "share common stances and interests on a wide range of issues."

"During the talks, Moratinos and I reached a consensus on reinforcing cooperation between China, Spain and Latin America," Li said.

When asked to comment on the European Union's (EU) decision to impose provisional anti-dumping duties on imports of Chinese shoes, Moratinos said Spain expects China and Europe to settle shoe disputes through proper negotiations.

Moratinos arrived in Shanghai on Monday for the third meeting of the China-Spain forum before meeting with Chinese leaders in Beijing.
