Chinese President Hu Jintao met Brazilian Vice President Jose Alencar on Friday, vowing to enhance bilateral relations and make them an example of unity between developing countries.

China and Brazil have witnessed great developments in bilateral ties and fruitful cooperation in all fields since diplomatic relations were established 32 years ago, Hu said.

In recent years, the two countries have launched a high-level coordination and cooperation mechanism, expanded cooperative fields and carried out sound cooperation on some major projects and on regional, international affairs, Hu said.

China and Brazil are the largest developing countries respectively in the eastern and western hemisphere. China attaches importance to Sino-Brazilian ties and regards Brazil as "a sincere friend and partner", he noted.

"We will keep deepening our strategic consensus, push forward substantial cooperation in all fields and try to make bilateral relations an example of unity, cooperation and common development between developing countries," Hu said.

Alencar hailed China's social and economic development in recent years. He said that to constantly promote the strategic partnership with China is the aspiration of both President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and the Brazilian government.

Alencar is here for the first meeting of a China-Brazil High-level Coordination and Cooperation Committee. He said the committee played an important role in furthering bilateral ties.

The Brazilian government will work with China to explore reciprocal potential, encourage and support cooperation between companies in a bid to strengthen bilateral ties, he added.
