HK opens more e-channels

Seven more e-channels were activated at the arrival hall of Lo Wu control point Friday, further accelerating the process of custom clearance.

The move brought the total number of e-channels available to 87, which is convenient for residents of Hong Kong.

The channels are open to the public daily from 6:30 am to midnight. Hong Kong permanent residents and holders of smart identity cards may use the e-channels to perform self-service clearance.

Lo Wu is the busiest control point along Hong Kong's boarder with Guangdong province, especially in holiday. The number of people who passed through Lo Wu control point reached 290,000 daily during the Christmas and the traditional Chinese New Year period of 2005.
