Drug ingestion record posted in Tanzania

A South African national has posted a record of drug ingestion by women for Tanzania and she may have broken the same record for the entire African continent, according to police sources.

The South African, identified as Singwata Thobela Mandongano, has since Thursday discharged 80 pellets of cocaine with a local street value of 24 million Tanzanian shillings (20,000 U.S. dollars).

The 26-year-old woman was detained at the Mwalimu J.K. Nyerere International Airport in Dar es Salaam after she arrived from Brazil for transit to South Africa.

Local police records showed that Habiba Hussein was the first woman to have been found with drug ingestion of 40 pellets when she was detained in Tanzania on September 27 of 2003 at the same airport.

Afwilile Mponi, senior superintendent of police, said that the South African woman had held in her body the highest amount of narcotic drugs ever ingested by a woman in this country and probably in Africa as well.
