A Palestinian militant attempting to fire rockets into Israel was killed by the Israeli army in the northern Gaza Strip on Monday, Palestinian security sources said.
The sources said that four militants, from Saraya al-Quds which is armed wing of the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) and Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades which is the Fatah movement's armed wing, came under the Israeli army attack when they were trying to launch homemade rockets.
Husam Abu Eadda, 22, a member of Saraya al-Quds, was killed by an Israeli tank shell, said the sources.
Another militant was also wounded and the two others fled the scene, the sources said, without revealing to which militant group the three militants belonged.
Meanwhile, Israeli army sources confirmed that the army fired tank artillery and missiles at a group of Palestinian militants who the sources said were trying to carry out attacks on Israeli targets.
Saraya al-Quds and Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades issued a joint statement, vowing to revenge the death of the Jihad militant.
The incident came just hours before the Palestinian parliament is to convene a session for a vote of confidence over the new cabinet headed by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
Palestinian militants frequently launch homemade rockets from the northern Gaza Strip into bordering Israeli towns, but the attacks rarely lead to casualties.
Israel withdrew from the entire Gaza Strip last summer, ending a 38-year-old occupation there.
