There is still room to solve the Iranian nuclear standoff within the framework of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said in Beijing Tuesday.
China, as always, holds that the international system of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons should be safeguarded, and the Iranian nuclear issue should be resolved through negotiations, Qin said at a regular press conference.
As to the upcoming meeting of foreign ministers from Britain, France, Germany, the United States, Russia and China, Qin told reporters that China has received the invitation to attend the meeting and is actively considering it.
The meeting is an important part of the effort of the international community to properly resolve the Iranian nuclear issue through negotiation, the spokesman said, hoping that the meeting could help to resolve the issue.
At the present situation, noted Qin, China takes an open attitude toward any suggestion or mechanism conducive for the settlement of the nuclear issue through negotiations.
It is reported that foreign ministers of Britain, France, Germany, the United States, Russia and China will meet at the German capital of Berlin on March 30 over the Iran nuclear issue.
