Macao sees rise in population in 2005

The resident population of Macao stood at 488,144 in Dec. 31, 2005, a year-on-year rise of 4.8 percent, according to official statistics issued on Wednesday.

The figures released by the government-run Statistics and Census Service showed that among the resident population, 51.7 percent were female and 48.3 percent were male.

In 2005, the number of live births totaled 3,671, up 11.0 percent over 2004, the figures showed.

The number of mortality cases reported in 2005 was 1,615, a year-on-year rise of 5.3 percent, according to the statistics.
