Visiting Polish Foreign Minister Stefan Meller said Thursday that Poland needs to further enhance political dialogues with China, which is conducive to mutual understanding of the two sides.

The Sino-Polish political dialogues have been maintained for many years, and he hopes that members of legislatures, key ministries, academies, institutes and non-government organizations of the two countries can join in the dialogues, said Meller during his speech at the Beijing-based China Institute of International Studies.

As an EU member and one of the countries that recognized China in 1949, said Meller, will actively participate in the EU's Chinese policy making, and help the European Union better understand China's development and changes, so as to promote a harmonious growth of China-EU relations.

Both Poland and China should increase practical contents to the strategic relations between China and the European Union, and Poland is ready to go on expanding bilateral reciprocal cooperation with China based on equality and mutual benefit, he said.

Meller also spoke highly of China's role in some major international and regional issues, saying that China shows a responsible image in such issues as the solution of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, the alleviation of the tension between India and Pakistan as well as the UN reform.
