A U.S. soldier died from wounds which he received in clashes in Fallujah, some 50 km west of Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Thursday.

"A soldier assigned to the 9th Naval Construction Regiment died of wounds sustained in fighting in Fallujah on March 28," the military said in a brief statement.

The name of the soldier is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.

The latest death brought to more than 2,325 the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March 2003, according to figures released by U.S. Department of Defense.
