The youth league of the Chinese Kuomintang Party (KMT) in Taiwan has elected Lin Yi-shih as its chief and as a result, Lin will automatically become a deputy chairman of the KMT, according to media reports from Taipei.
The KMT's youth league made the announcement at Thursday's press conference in Taipei.
Upon learning about his appointment, Lin said he would try to provide more opportunities and channels for local young people to participate in political affairs and help the KMT to win in the 2008 elections.
Ma Ying-jeou has been behind the formation of KMT's youth wing, after he assumed the chairmanship of the party last year.
The KMT's youth league began setting up its branches across the island province on January 20 and registering candidates to compete for the league's chief. Eight people including Lin applied for the candidacy.
