The World Food Program (WFP) said here on Thursday that it has a shortfall of 4.4 million U.S. dollars this year to feed the refugees in Zambia.
WFP Public Relations Officer Joo Woods said although currently the full rations of the food has been resumed in the refugee camps, WFP still needs more funding to avoid food ration cuts as it was experienced early this year.
Woods appealed to the donor community to support WFP in feeding the refugees.
Meanwhile, WFP has refuted media reports that refugees at Mwange refugee camp in Mporokoso are selling food rations.
"What we're aware of is that some refugees practice barter system with Zambians in host communities but we have not received any reports that they are selling the food stuffs," she said.
There are about 160,000 refugees in Zambia from neighboring countries, including Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
