The United States will maintain its effort for the resumption of the six-party talks which was designed to solve the nuclear disputes on the Korean peninsular, the State Department said on Thursday.
"We continue to make every effort to support a resumption of the six-party talks as soon as possible. That continues to be our goal, and that continues to be our focus, deputy State Department spokesman Adam Ereli told a news briefing.
"The six-party process, frankly, is the way that we've all decided is the most effective means of addressing the problem of a nuclear Korean peninsula and how to achieve the goal of a denuclearized Korean peninsula," he said.
The six-party talks, launched in 2003, involves the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), the United States, the Republic of Korea, China, Japan and Russia.
The DPRK has said that it would not return to the six-party talks unless the United States lifts the sanctions imposed on the country.
