Duty on Nepali goods to India to be waived: official
font size

The 4 percent additional customs duty imposed on Nepali exports to India is all set to be removed soon, thanks to latest negotiations of business people and government officials of the two countries, an official said.

Talking to reporters here on Friday, the secretary at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Bharat Bahadur Thapa, hoped that the duty imposed by India as per the current fiscal year's budget would be removed in due course of time.

Thapa said that India has already assured the Nepali government about the removal of the duty as goods bound for India have been stranded at border points for the last few days.

The announcement made by India for the imposition of additional duty in the current fiscal year was applicable to all imports to India from any part of the globe, according to Thapa.

In case the duty is not removed, goods worth over 1.2 billion Nepali rupees (17.14 million US dollars) stranded at the border will be wasted, business sector people said.
