Georgia, Moldova deeply worried by Russian ban on winesGeorgia and Moldova have expressed deep concern over a Russian ban recently imposed on wine imports and hope that the dispute will be solved soon. Georgia's chamber of commerce and industry said on Thursday that the Russian ban would have a negative impact on two-way trade and significantly slow down the pace of bilateral trade growth. Speaker of Georgia's parliament, Nino Burdzhanadze, believed Russia should lift the ban. Moldova's parliament on Thursday protested against the Russian ban. Meanwhile, a Moldovan delegation was in Moscow for talks on resuming its wine exports to Russia, which make up some 30 percent of the country's gross domestic product. Russia brought in the ban last Saturday after the Health Ministry said wines from those countries had been found to contain dangerous pesticides, a claim denied by both. Source: Xinhua |
