German Chancellor Angela Merkel will visit the United States in May for talks with U.S. President George W. Bush, said a government spokesman on Friday.
Merkel is to be in Washington in early May to meet with Bush and to attend the 100th anniversary ceremony of the American Jewish Committee, her spokesman Ulrich Wilhelm told a news conference.
On the same day, a foreign ministry spokesman said that Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier will go to Washington on Monday-Tuesday to hold talks with his U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on the issues such as the Iranian nuclear crisis, the Middle East conflict, Belarus and the Balkans.
