The per capita income in the post- war Afghanistan is going to increase from 293 U.S. dollars in 2005 to 335 U.S. dollars in the current year, a report of the country's central bank Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB) said Sunday.
Afghanistan's national income per capita in the past 12 months had reached 293 U.S. dollars and it's widely anticipated that it will increase to 335 U.S. dollars for the next following year, DAB President Noorullah Delaware said in the report presented to President Hamid Karzai yesterday.
Mr. Delaware said the growth rate of the economy last year was 14 percent and the growth rate was 8 percent.
DAB has had notable success in containing inflationary pressures on the Afghan economy. During the past 12 months, Afghanistan's inflation rate was 10 percent and food prices had significantly fallen. Only the inflation rate for house rents and oil prices had risen.
President Hamid Karzai promised his people in 2003 to increase the country's national per capita income from 200 U.S. dollars to 500 U.S. dollars by 2008. This growth rate indicates a significant step towards a fully-fledged economy.
