font size

India will see its food grain production reach 209.32 million tons in 2005-2006 fiscal year, a rise of 4.71 million tons from last year, says the second advance estimate of 2005-2006 crop production released by the Indian Agriculture Ministry Monday.

The estimated 209.32 million tons are divided into summer food production of 108.15 million tons and winter production of 101.17 million tons.

At the same time, the estimate predicts that wheat production is to hit 73.06 million tons, up from last year's 72 million tons.

Besides wheat, some of the other crops too are expected to register a rise this year.

Production of maize is estimated to rise to 14.99 million tons and pulses to 14.4 million tons, up 7.6 percent from the year of 2004-2005 while the oilseeds production is expected to hit 26.37 million tons, up from last year's 26.1 million tons.
