Visiting Thai Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn on Tuesday called for more exchanges between Chinese and Thai students.
During her visit to the prestigious Beijing University where she once studied for a month, she said she was glad to see the increasing contacts between students from the two countries.
As an old friend of the Chinese people, Princess Sirindhorn has a strong interest in Chinese history, language and culture. She has written several books about China and translated a number of Chinese poems and stories into other languages.
She studied Chinese at Beijing University for a month in 2001, and was granted an honorary doctor's degree by the university in honor of her contribution to advancing the Sino-Thai cultural exchanges, and her academic achievements in this regard.
At a meeting held in the Sirindhorn Center for Technology and Cultural Exchanges which was established last year, Princess Sirindhorn said the center has made active contribution to cultivating talents and promoting exchanges between students of both countries.
She hopes the center would further boost Thailand-China exchanges and cooperation in the fields of technology, culture and language.
President of Beijing University Xu Zhihong said the contribution Princess Sirindhorn has made in spreading the cultures of the two countries and strengthening the friendship between the two peoples will be forever remembered and appreciated.
Sirindhorn also visited Beijing's Xiaotangshan modern agriculture technology park and the Capital Museum on Tuesday.
The princess is on her 23rd visit to China since her first visit in 1981.
Besides Beijing, she will also travel to the provinces of Zhejiang and Fujian in East China and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region as well as Guangdong Province in South China.
