Tokyo stocks rose Wednesday morning spurred by overnight gains in U.S. shares and optimism over the course of the Tokyo stock market.
The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average rose 99.12 points, or 0.57 percent, to end the morning at 17,392.03, after briefly hitting 17, 464.54, its highest intraday level since July 17, 2000.
The Tokyo Stock Price Index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 12.57 points, or 0.72 percent, to 1, 762.22.
