Visiting Turkmenistan President Saparmurat Niyazov left Beijing on Wednesday morning for China's economic hub Shanghai.

Niyazov will meet with officials in Shanghai and east China's Zhejiang Province before wrapping up his six-day state visit on Friday, according to sources with Foreign Ministry.

During his stay in Beijing, Niyazov held talks with his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao and met with Wu Bangguo, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC).

Niyazov's visit also produced a joint statement on energy cooperation, pledging quick steps on China-Turkmenistan gas pipeline project.

Niyazov arrived in Beijing on Sunday.
