China presents books to MalaysiaThe China Overseas Exchanges Association (COEA) on Wednesday presented a batch of books to the Malaysian Education Ministry via the Chinese Embassy, in a bid to further strengthen ties between the two countries in the educational field. The books covers three areas, namely, the Chinese history, culture and geography. Written in both Chinese and English, the books will be distributed to Chinese-language primary schools in this multi-racial, multi-cultural and multi-religious country. The Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Wang Chungui and Malaysian Deputy Education Minister Hong Choon Kin attended the ceremony at the Sejarah Chinese Primary School. Wang expressed his hope that Malaysian schools engaged in the teaching of the Chinese language could befit from those books, enabling their teachers and students to have a better understanding of China. Hong thanked the COEA and the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia for their efforts in promoting exchanges and cooperation in the educational field between the two countries. The Malaysian government attaches importance to the development of multi-lingual education, encouraging the Malaysian students to learn English and Chinese in addition to their mastery of the national language, Malay, said the deputy education minister. Last October, the COEA sent a delegation of senior teachers to attend seminars on Chinese language teaching for Malaysian high schools held in Kuala Lumpur and Penang.
