Chinese premier meets Cambodian King on relations

Visiting Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao met with Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni Saturday on promoting bilateral relations.

Wen first thanked the Cambodian royal family's contributions to the sound development of China-Cambodia relations.

"China and Cambodia are close neighbors and we cherish each other like brothers. We are glad to see that Cambodia has achieved political stability, solidarity among ethnic groups, and economic development under the leadership of King Sihamoni," Wen said.

The premier also spoke highly of his meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, during which the two sides agreed to establish a Comprehensive Partnership of Cooperation.

"The Chinese government attaches great importance to relations with Cambodia and cherishes the special friendship with Cambodia's royal family," Wen said, adding that both countries should consolidate their traditional friendship and broaden the win-win cooperation.

King Sihamoni, speaking on behalf of the Cambodian people, extended a warm welcome to Wen's visit and called the two prime ministers' meeting earlier in the day "fruitful".

"The consensus reached in setting up and developing a Comprehensive Partnership of Cooperation is a new milestone in the Cambodia-China relations and will surely push forward the bilateral cooperation in a wide variety of fields," said King Sihamoni.
