Chinese leader calls on Hakka people to work for national rejuvenation

Chinese leader Jia Qinglin on Monday expressed the hope that the Hakka people will continue their efforts to realize the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remark in a meeting with a delegation from Tsung Tsin Association of Hong Kong (TTAHK) with Sally Aw Sian as its honorary leader.

Extending his warm welcome to the delegation, Jia said the Hakka people domestic and overseas represented by Tsung Tsin Association have long cared for the reunification of the motherland, and contributed to the motherland's construction and development.

Jia said the Chinese mainland will continuously uphold the principles of "one country, two systems," Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong and a high degree of autonomy, strictly act in accordance with the Basic Law of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).

"We will also support the HKSAR government headed by Chief Executive Donald Tsang to administrate Hong Kong according to law, push forward the mainland-Hong Kong cooperation and work for a long-term stability and prosperity of Hong Kong," he added.

Jia said that the Chinese mainland will continue developing cross-Straits relations while sticking to the basic principles of "peaceful reunification" and "one country, two systems", as well as the eight-point proposal on the settlement of the Taiwan question.

The mainland will also implement the four-point proposal on the development of the cross-Straits relations proposed by President Hu Jintao, he said.

At the same time, Jia said, "We will never tolerate "Taiwan independence" and resolutely oppose "Taiwan independence" secessionist forces to separate Taiwan from the motherland."

Chen Yunlin, director of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, was present at the meeting.
