New Zealand Minister for Sport and Recreation Trevor Mallard extended his congratulations Monday to the country's swimming team for their outstanding performance at the just-concluded world short-course swimming championships at Shanghai.
"Well done to the entire team, and of course to the coaches who put in an enormous amount of work to get our team there in peak physical condition and ready to race," said Mallard.
New Zealand had its best world championship ever at Shanghai with two medals and 22 New Zealand records, according to reports.
The two medallists are Moss Burmester who won a silver medal in the 200-meter butterfly and Hannah McLean who took the bronze in the 50-meter backstroke.
"It tops off a fabulous three weeks for our swim team - at the Commonwealth Games and now the world championships," said Mallard.
