Zambia opposes trade embargo on Cuba: official
font size

Zambia is firmly and unshakably opposed to the trade embargo imposed by the Unites States against Cuba, a government minister said on Monday in Lusaka.

Information Minister and chief government spokesman Vernon Mwaanga voiced the stance while meeting a visiting special envoy of Cuba.

He called for immediate lifting of the embargo as it has a negative impact on the people of Cuba.

The Cuban special envoy, Anavilma Vallejera, is in the country to deliver an invitation to Zambian President Levy Mwanawasa to attend the 14th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit to be held in Cuban capital city of Havana in September this year.

The information minister expressed sadness that Africa is not well represented by the western media that still think it is a " dark" continent.

Speaking at the meeting, the Cuban envoy said there is need to revitalize the NAM in order to diversify its operations and strengthen the membership.
