Day-long curfew continues in Nepali capital for fourth day
font size

The Nepali government has declared a five-hour curfew in the capital Kathmandu Valley on Tuesday beginning 12:00 p.m. local time (0615GMT).

This is the fourth day that the Nepali government imposed curfew in the valley, two hours lesser than on Monday, in order to maintain law and order.

The district administrations of Kathmandu and Lalitpur announced curfew, citing possible violence and loss of property during agitations being carried out by the seven opposition political parties.

The curfew orders have been clamped within the Ring Road area, the periphery of downtown Kathmandu and Lalitpur cities, and some parts of Kirtipur cities of Kathmandu Valley.

The regular curfew hours, 10:00 p.m. local time (1615GMT) to 4: 00 a.m. local time (2215GMT), announced on Monday, will remain effective, the notice noted, adding, "Security personnel have been authorized to shoot at those defying the curfew."
