Iran successfully enriches uranium: president
font size

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad announced on Tuesday that Iran had successfully enriched uranium, but stressed at the same time that Iran did not want to seek nuclear weapons.

Delivering a televised speech in the northwestern city of Mashhad, Ahmadinejad said that Iran had made a great stride in science by successfully enriching uranium, announcing that Iran had joined the world nuclear technology club.

He attributed the success in the lab-scale nuclear fuel cycle to the blessings of God and efforts by Iranian scientists.

The Iranian president also stressed the peaceful nature of the country's nuclear program, saying that Tehran wanted to operate its nuclear program under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency and within the framework of the nuclear Non- Proliferation Treaty.
