The number of cars imported to China during the first three months of 2006 reached 51,000, according to a news release from the General Administration of Customs(GAC) on Wednesday.
According to statistics, China imported 22,000 cars in March, and 29,000 in the first two months this year.
China's export of machinery and electronic products grew 34.2 percent to reach 114.58 billion US dollars in the first three months of this year, making up 58.1 percent of the country's total exports.
Meanwhile, China's import of machinery and electronic products jumped 30.8 percent to 93.7 billion U.S. dollars.
The export of electric and electronic products came to 46.54 billion U.S. dollar during the period, up 41.9 percent year on year; machine tool exports reached 40.32 billion U.S. dollars, up 25.4 percent; and exports of high-tech products came to 59.27 billion U.S. dollars, up 35.8 percent.
Among major items for export, clothing was up 23 percent to 17.21 billion dollars, yarn and other textile products rose by 20.5 percent to 10.13 billion dollars.
