The 121 skulls discovered in Gansu Province in March were dug up from ownerless tombs, Xinhua reporter leaned from the police department of Gansu Province.
The police investigation said Qiao, a farmer in Huzhu County, Qinghai Province dug up human skulls from ownerless tombs and then sold them to Liang, who sawed off the tops of the skulls and sold them to Liu, a native in Yong Jing County, Gansu Province.
Liu made the tops of skulls into craftworks and sold them for profits.
Before the Spring Festival in 2006, Liang put the remains of the skulls in a bag and discarded them in Tanshanling Township, Tianzhu County, Gansu Province.
The skulls were found on March 27. Police examination confirmed that the 121 skulls in the bag are all human.
All the people involved have been summoned by the police and they will receive punishment according to law.
