font size

Chinese and U.S. diplomats on Friday held their first consultation on Latin American affairs as part of their strategic dialogue in Beijing.

The discussions were conducted by Zeng Gang, director of the Latin American affairs Department of Chinese Foreign Ministry, and U.S. Assistant Secretary for Western Hemisphere Affairs Thomas Shannon.

The two sides discussed their respective policies on and relations with Latin American countries and China-U.S. cooperation in the region.

They agreed to further such consultations.

Shannon said the consultation would help the United States to better understand Chinese policy on Latin America, enhance U.S.-China trust and promote their cooperation in the region.
