Georgian president calls for Georgia, China to increase economic exchanges

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili on Thursday in Shanghai called for Georgia and China to increase economic and trade exchanges, especially in the textile and machinery fields.

Saakashvili told Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng that the purpose of his visit was to seek further cooperation in trade and investment.

The president hoped more Chinese entrepreneurs would invest and do business in Georgia.

Han Zheng briefed Saakashvili on Shanghai's economic and social progress.

Trade volume between Shanghai and Georgia increased by 55 percent year-on-year in the first quarter this year.

Saakashvili arrived here from Beijing on Thursday afternoon, continuing his six-day state visit in China.
