font size

The African Development Bank (AfDB) on Saturday provided Zanzibar with 1.2-million-U.S. dollars worth of medicines and medical equipment to assist the Indian Ocean archipelago in improving its health care services.

The African Development Bank is providing Zanzibar with a grant package of 108 million dollars, according to Zanzibar Health Minister Sultan Mohamed Mughery.

The first batch of AfDB fund was spent on purchasing medical laboratory equipment, medicines for children and women in particular.

The Zanzibar health minister said that the local authorities concerned would be held responsible for securing that the medicines reach the targeted population.

The African Development Bank is also funding Zanzibar with its development in the education and housing sectors.
