Stocks opened lower on the Tokyo Stock Exchange on Monday, with the market pressured by profit- taking following two straight days of gains through Friday.
In the first 15 minutes of trading, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dipped 54.05 points, or 0.31 percent, to 17,179.77.
The broader Tokyo Stock Price Index of all First Section issues declined 8.38 points, or 0.48 percent, to 1,735.69. The Second Section also fell.
