ADB to help Philippines improve local government units
font size

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will help the Philippine government improve the work of local government units (LGUs) through a technical assistance grant of 1. 8 million U.S. dollars, the ADB said on Monday in a statement.

The grant, provided in response to a request from the Philippine Government, will address three key aspects of local governance, including legal framework for decentralization of government operations, budget management and better mobilizing of resources, the ADB said.

LGUs in around three provinces will be selected for participation in the project based on their prospects for accessing credit markets and commitment to improved governance, among others.

The total cost of the technical assistance is estimated at 2. 575 million U.S. dollars. The Philippine government will contribute the balance of 775,000 U.S. dollars equivalent in the form of office space, staff support and other items.
