font size

The two-day China Education Exhibition 2006 ended on Monday in Kathmandu.

As many as 25 universities from various parts of China including Communication University of China, Sun Yat-Sen University, Fudan University, Tongji University, are participating in the event, the fourth of its kind in Nepal.

The exhibition is jointly organized by China Scholarship Council under Chinese Education Ministry, the Chinese Embassy to Nepal and the Araniko Society, a Sino-Nepal friendship organization.

The major objective of the exhibition is to provide first-hand information to prospective Nepalese students and families about the Chinese education system, individual universities and courses they offer.

Vice-President of Arniko Society H. C. Shah told Xinhua that they were highly encouraged by the overwhelming response from the visitors.

China has got world class universities which has provided congenial environment for not only the Nepalese students but also students from other countries, Shah said.

According to Shah, China has been providing scholarships to the Nepalese students in various areas, which have proved to be very helpful in the development of the country.

He said that many students who could not visit the exhibition have certainly missed the opportunity to explore the educational opportunities that China could offer to them.

Wu Liansheng, the Chinese team leader of the exhibition, said that although the organizers were apprehensive that the ongoing general strike called by Nepali political parties would affect the exhibition, the response from visitors has indeed been quite encouraging.

Some students even came to the exhibition venue on foot, which explains the enthusiasm of students to study in China, Wu said.

Yubaraj Devkota, who recently completed his engineering in IT, said that he came to the exhibition just to get some of the necessary information for studying in China.

Similarly, Ajit Jha, who came to collect the information about the Chinese universities, said that he wants to study mass communication in China and he was satisfied after getting an appropriate university in the exhibition.

There are many more students like him who need such type of platform where they can explore the information and can interact directly with the officials of the Chinese universities, he said.
