The Hong Kong Exchange Fund's foreign assets amounted to 913.8 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 117.91 billion U.S. dollars) in March, down 2.8 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 361.29 million U.S. dollars) on February, the Monetary Authority said Tuesday.
The monetary base, comprising certificates of indebtedness, Government-issued currency notes and coins in circulation, the aggregate balance of the banking system and Exchange Fund bills and notes issued, amounted to 286.4 billion Hong Kong dollars ( about 36.95 billion U.S. dollars).
Private sector claims amounted to 63.5 billion Hong Kong dollars (about 8.19 billion U.S. dollars).
Foreign liabilities, representing mainly obligations under repurchase agreements, amounted to 1.7 billion Hong Kong dollars ( about 219.35 million U.S. dollars).
