Philippines, Taiwan to discuss anti-crime cooperation in region

Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and other top police officials flew to Taiwan on Monday to discuss possible anti-crime cooperation in the region, a police spokesman said on Tuesday.

The police spokesman Samuel Pagdilao told reporters that director General Arturo Lomibao, the PNP chief, was to attend a three-day talks with Taiwanese counterparts beginning Tuesday, including potential joint efforts in combating terrorism in the region.

"These are exploratory talks for close cooperation between the two sides on anti-terrorism, anti-illegal drugs, and human trafficking," Pagdilao said, adding that the two sides will also discuss the problem of fishermen crossing each other's borders.

The Philippines, which has adopted the one-China policy and recognizes Taiwan as a province of China, maintains close counter- terrorism cooperation with U.S., Australia, and some countries in the Southeast Asia.
