Sino-U.S. summit cements stable relations: Macao media

The meeting between Chinese President Hu Jintao and his U.S. counterpart George W. Bush was hailed on Saturday by Macao media as cementing the stable relations between the two countries.

Macao Daily News, the leading local Chinese newspaper, said in its editorial that the summit held on Thursday helped the two nations reach consensus in many issues of mutual interests.

The newspaper quoted President Hu as saying that his tour was aimed at expanding dialogue, increasing mutual understanding, strengthen confidence building and deepening cooperation with the United States.

Hu received "warm and candid welcome" on his tour, an indicator that his aims have been well achieved, said the editorial.

The so called "China Threat" will not be the mainstream in U.S. political and economic circles, as the world sole super power has learned to treat China as a partner, it said.

"The Sino-U.S. relations are mature enough, as the two sides are able to openly discuss on their frictions," Bush was cited.

The two countries vowed the efforts to solve the issues of trade imbalance, intellectual property protection and nuclear proliferation, according to the newspaper.

It hailed that the two sides will be progressing in building "a more constructive relation."

Other major newspapers in Macao Saturday also dedicated many of their pages to Hu's four-day U.S. trip, which ended on Friday.
