Ethiopia said Sunday it has secured 32.4 million U.S. dollars from export of horticultural products over the last three years.
Sirak Alemu, head of the Horticultural Products Department of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, told journalists that the amount of revenue was secured from export of 91,397 tons of horticultural products during the past three years.
Sirak said most of the horticultural products have been shipped to Holland, Italy, Norway, Britain, Saudi Arabia and Djibouti via the capital Addis Ababa and the eastern border town Dire Dawa.
He said the highest share of the secured revenue was secured from shipment of fasolia.
An action plan has been prepared with a view to expanding horticultural development in selected parts of the country in a bid to boost the contribution of fruits and vegetables to the national economy, Sirak said.
Ethiopia's proximity to European and west Asian markets, its climate and attractive investment conditions led a lot of foreign and domestic companies to establish operations there, according to horticultural experts.
