Cuban and Uruguayan officials on Monday met to boost trade between the two counties in the Cuban capital, Havana, local media in Havana reported on Monday.
The meeting between Uruguay's Deputy Foreign Minister Belela and Cuban Deputy Foreign Investment Minister Orlando Requeijos aimed to boost bilateral trade and cooperation in agriculture, fishing, veterinary drugs, health and social services areas between the two countries.
Belela thanked Cuba for including Uruguay in Operation Miracle, a Cuba-Venezuela joint venture offering help to low-income Latin Americans, which has so far benefited more than 370 Uruguayans.
Belela also met with his Cuban counterpart, Abelardo Moreno, to sign an agreement on visa exemption for diplomats from both countries.
Later on Monday, Belela is due to meet Cuban Foreign Minister Felipe Perez Roque.
Cuba broke diplomatic ties with Uruguay after then Uruguayan President Jorge Batlle reported Cuba to the United Nations Human Rights Commission in 2002.
Uruguay and Cuba restored diplomatic relations in 2005 after socialist President Tabare Vazquez took power.
